PH conveys sympathy on death of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan

The Philippines has conveyed its sympathy to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over the death of President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheik Khalifa passed away on May 13. He was 73.

The Philippines through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) expressed its condolences to UAE and its people on Sunday, May 15.

"The Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Filipino nation stand in solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and its people as they mourn the passing of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE," the DFA said in a statement.

The Philippines also paid tribute to the leadership of Sheikh Khalifa that has led to a "bright future for his country's future generations."

He also steered UAE, an oil-rich Gulf state, to becoming a global economic powerhouse, the DFA added.

"During His Highness Sheikh Khalifa’s eighteen years as President, starting in 2004, he steered the UAE with wisdom and tolerance towards becoming a global economic powerhouse," the DFA said.

"His Highness’ legacy has secured a bright future for his country’s future generations," it added.
