Jujitsu, fencing teams deliver more medals for Team PH

The national jujitsu and fencing teams added more medals to the growing haul of Team Philippines in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam Sunday, May 15.

Grappler Jollirine Co clinched silver medal in the women's U45 kg NOGI at the Dan Phuong Gymnasium while fencer Nathaniel Perez also captured silver in the men's foil event at the Hanoi Indoor Games Palace.

Co took down Cambodia's Sokhouy Mab in the semifinal but yielded to Vietnamese foe Phung Thie Hue in the gold medal round.

Jan Vincent Ferrer and Marc Lim, who was a silver medalist in the 2019 edition, also placed third after falling to their respective semifinal matches in the men's U 56KG NOGI and U 69kg GI categories, respectively.

Meanwhile, Perez thwarted home bet Nguyen Minh Quang in the semifinal, 15-11, before absorbing a 15-7 defeat at the hands of eventual gold medalist Tian Wei Jonathan Au Eong of Singapore.

Still, Perez made a significant improvement since settling for bronze more than two years ago here in the Philippines.

The national jujitsu team already garnered two golds in Meggie Ochoa and Annie Ramirez, two silvers in Carlo Angelo Peña and Co, and two bronzes in Ferrer and Lim while the fencing squad has one gold in Samantha Catantan (women's foil) and two silvers in Perez and Noelito Jose Jr. (men's epee).
