Parks, Nagoya on brink of B.League playoff exit

Ray Parks Jr. and the Nagoya Diamond Dolphins were pushed on the brink of elimination Saturday, May 14 after suffering a 97-71 loss to the Kawasaki Brave Thunders in the opener of their best-of-three playoff series in Japan’s B.League.

Parks was held to just four points on 2-of-6 shooting as the Diamond Dolphins had no answer for the Brave Thunders, who won before their home fans at the Todoroki Arena.

The second generation cager, the only Filipino who made the Japanese league playoffs, also had six rebounds and two assists in almost 20 minutes of action for Nagoya.

Nagoya will try to stay alive in the second game of the quarterfinal series on Sunday at the same venue.

Only two Nagoya players scored in double figures with import Scott Eatherton posting 19 and Yusuke Karino adding 12.

Yuma Fujii produced 21 points to lead the Brave Thunders, who held the second-best record in the regular season, to victory.

Former PBA import Nick Fazekas added eight points, nine rebounds and five assists for Kawasaki.
