Iloilo City, 3 towns brace for water shortage

ILOILO CITY -- Starting May 16, there will be a water shortage in key parts of Iloilo City as well as the towns of Leganes, Pavia, and Sta. Barbara.

The Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), the joint venture between state-owned Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) and Metro Pacific Water (MPC) said the reason for this is one of its bulk water suppliers will stop providing water supply.

With this development, MPIW Chief Operating Officer Rob Cabiles announced that there will be scheduled water interruptions in identified areas as water supply will be on rotational basis.

Cabiles urged both local residents and businesses to store water in the coming weeks with the impending low pressure.

According to MIWD Acting General Manager Amarylis Castro, FLO Water Resources Inc. wrote a letter informing that its 10-year agreement as water supplier will end. In said notice, the water supplier said ‘it will cease to deliver bulk water effective 11:59 p.m. of May 15, 2022.”

The bulk water supply company owned by Ilonggo media magnate Rogelio Florete has been delivering 20,000 cubic meters per day to MIWD, while another company, Prime Water Infrastructure Corp., is supplying another 10,000 cubic meters.
