DepEd proposes add'l P3,000 across the board pay for poll workers

The Department of Education (DepEd) has asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to provide additional pay for the teaching and non-teaching personnel who served as members of the Electoral Board amounting to P3,000.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones formally requested the additional pay for poll workers in a letter dated May 12, 2022, addressed to Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan.

“DepEd’s teaching and non-teaching personnel have once again provided their selfless service to the country by devoting their utmost efforts in energy, their sweat and tears, and their safety and well-being to the success of the 2022 national and local elections conducted last May 9, 2022,” Briones said.

“As reports of extended hours of service were raised mainly by reasons of vote counting machines (VCMs) malfunctions and SD cards issues, it is but appropriate that our personnel be justly compensated for the extra hours they have rendered,” Briones added.

Briones noted that the DepEd Election Task Force, spearheaded by Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del B. Pascua and Procurement Management Service Director Atty. Marcelo Bragado immediately coordinated with the Comelec on the matter of additional pay for the poll workers.

Meanwhile, DepEd also expressed hope that the compensation and the honoraria and other allowances for its personnel who served in the elections will be given on or before May 24, 2022, as provided by Comelec Resolution No. 10727.
