Adamson cruises past FEU for third straight win

Adamson cruised past Far Eastern University for its third straight win, 23-25, 25-9, 25-18, 25-18, in the UAAP Season 84 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Saturday, May 14.

After losing the first set, the Lady Falcons made quick work of the Lady Tamaraws in the second frame and since then rode on the momentum to take the win en route to a 3-2 record.

Adamson bucked its slow start as Lucille Almonte provided the spark with 17 points built on 16 spikes while Kate Santiago scored 14 points all from attacks.

Trisha Genesis chipped in 11 points with two service aces while Rizza Cruz and May Ann Nuique added 10 points apiece.

"Talagang naramdaman namin na gusto rin talagang manalo ng FEU so very aggressive sila," said Lady Falcons head coach Lerma Giron. "Ang sinabi ko lang, â€˜Pag hindi natin pinantayan o hinigitan yung aggressiveness ng kabila, talagang â€˜di kami mananalo.'"

Adamson led by as many as 10 points in the fourth set before Julianne Monares pumped life for FEU and cut the deficit down to six, 22-16.

Genesis and Lorene Toring, however, connived down the stretch and put up the finishing touches to put FEU at 1-4.

In the second set, the Lady Falcons vented their ire from their first set loss and unloaded an early 14-3 run and never looked back at that point.

Nikka Medina paced the Lady Tamaraws with 13 points off 10 spikes and two service aces while Jean Asis added nine attacks. Julianne Monares and Shiela Mae Kiseo had nine and eight points, respectively, while Chen Tagaod, FEU's main scorer in the last games, was limited to five markers only.
