PAF transport plane blows tires while landing at Laoag airport

A light-lift fixed wing aircraft of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) blew its tires while attempting to land at Laoag Airport in Ilocos Norte on Friday morning, May 13.

Col. Maynard Mariano, PAF spokesperson, said five aircrew were onboard the NC212i aircraft with tail number 2119 when the incident happened at 10:32 a.m.

“The pilots performed an emergency procedure and shutdown the engine at the runway. All aircrew are safe and no injury were reported,” Mariano said.

Mariano said the only damage to the aircraft was just its tires.

The PAF has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. It was not clear where the plane came from as of this writing.

“The PAF will continue to adhere to strict safety protocols to ensure the safe operation of its aircraft and equipment,” Mariano said.

The NC212i aircraft is strategically used by the PAF for maritime patrol or producing rain.

It can also be used for passenger and troop transport, cargo/logistics transport, anti-smuggling control, immigration control, search and rescue, paratroop dropping, and medical evacuation.
