Comelec to discuss VCM glitches on Saturday

Following the call of Pres. Duterte to probe reported glitches of some vote-counting machines (VCMs) on Election Day, May 9, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, May 13, said it will look into the reports of malfunctioning VCMs.

Various groups and individuals have raised concern over the defective VCMs, casting doubt on the credibility of the polls.

"In view of the call of the President (Duterte) to investigate the defective VCMs during the election last Monday, Commissioner (Marlon S.) Casquejo, the head of the steering committee, will convene tomorrow (May 14) the CAC (Comelec Advisory Council) and the PMO (Project Management Office) to get to the bottom of this issue," Comelec Commissioner George Erwin M. Garcia told reporters covering the poll body.

On May 12, Duterte said he is hoping that the Comelec will find time to investigate the VCMs "just to disabuse the minds of those na may dayaan (that think that there was cheating)."

More than 1,800 VCMs reportedly malfunctioned on May 9, according to Garcia.
