Comelec explains quick transmission of election results despite PH's slow internet

Despite the slow internet service in the country, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the quick transmission of election results (ERs) was possible because the transmission of ERs does not require large bandwidth.

To further explain it, Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex C. Laudiangco compared the transmission of ERs to the sending of text messages.

“Hindi naman po large bandwidth, ang kailangan sa transmission (Large bandwidth is not needed to transmit). It is actually burst,” he said during a press briefing on Friday, May 13.

“Maliit na file data lamang po ito. Kung titingnan po nila ito napakaliit na file data ng lahat--- ng ERs ng COCs (certificate of canvass). Napakaliit na file data (This is just a small file data. If they are going to look at this, all file data are small—ERs of COCs). So it is not impossible given the current infrastructure natin,” he further explained.

Laudiangco noted that 99 percent of the 106,174 vote-counting machines functioned on Election Day, saying such also was a factor in the quick transmission of ERs.

“Ang hindi lang po nakapag-transmit kaagad ay ‘yung hindi po nakahabol doon sa unang bugso ng transmission na 950 na nagka-issue (The only ones that were not able to immediately transmit during the first wave of the transmission were the 950 VCMs which had issues),” he said.

Many people have been baffled on how the ERs have been transmitted quickly this election as it usually takes days for ERs to be transmitted in the past.
