Apart from nailing Met Gala’s themes, Blake Lively also matches its carpets

“When the carpet matches the Blakes.”

If there is one Met Gala attendee who we can trust to always get the theme on point, apart from the queen of Met Gala, Rihanna, it’s actress Blake Lively. For this year’s most stylish event, Blake interpreted the “Gilded Glamour” theme by paying homage to New York’s architecture and the iconic Statue of Liberty.

With the help from Versace, Blake was able to channel that aesthetic with a copper dress that transformed into an ombre look with a patina gree hue, much like the color of the Statue of Liberty since 1906, when she walked the gala’s carpet on May 2.

“I think Versace thought I was crazy when I called them and pitched this,” Blake said in a video produced by Vogue. “Rather than looking at fashion from the Gilded Age, I wanted to look at architecture... Instead of me performing, I wanted the dress to perform.”

But for many eagle-eyed fans of the Met Gala, not only did they notice how the actress impeccably follow the theme, but they also noticed how Blake was able to match the gala’s carpet through the years. In fact, she even joked about it through an Instagram post shared in 2020, with the caption “When the carpet matches the Blakes.”

“It’s just been a crazy thing every year where I match the carpet,” she said in Vogue’s video. “This year, I’m hosting and I went to Anna beforehand and I said, ‘Anna, there’s a lot of pressure. I really need to match the carpet this year because we’ve set a precedent.’”

“This carpet designer and I, we’re soulmates,” Blake continued.
