The police arrested a 37-year-old vendor after he was found in possession of a gun in violation of the existing gun ban implemented by the Commission on Election (Comelec) in connection with the May 9 national and local elections.
Southern Police District (SPD) director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg identified the suspect as Edwin Molato, a resident of Taguig, who was arrested at about 8:30 p.m. in an anti-criminality operation along Callao Street in Barangay South Signal Village.

According to the police, they were conducting an operation when they saw the suspect in possession of a .38-caliber revolver which was visibly tucked in his waist, prompting them to arrest him after he failed to show documents for the firearm, which was also loaded with four live ammunition.
The police said Molato is also in violation of Republic Act 10592 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
Molato is now under the custody of the Taguig police.
“I appeal to our citizens to surrender to the authorities your undocumented firearms while the papers are being processed as we are strict in security and implementation of our gun ban in our area of jurisdiction,” said Macaraeg.
