Six persons arrested, assorted war materials seized in Comelec checkpoint in Lanao del Norte

ILIGAN CITY -- Government troops manning a Commission on Election checkpoint along National Highway of Tagolo QCP intercepted high powered firearms and explosives and arrested six persons late Tuesday (May 10) afternoon.

The six suspects were arrested after they were caught in possession and control of assorted firearms and explosives while on board a pick-up truck allegedly owned by the Local Government of Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur.

The vehicle was driven by Tristan Bendecion Baguio and was bound for the municipality of Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte.

Said suspects were held at the Border Control Checkpoint/QCP and were subsequently arrested upon their failure to present legal documents to possess the said firearms and explosives, in violation of RA 10591 and RA 9515.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Salman Saad, Provincial Information officer, Lanao del Norte Provincial Police Office, identified the arrested individuals as Esmail Maruhom Wali, 42 (Bn Cmdr, 105BC, CMF, BIAF-MILF); Adam Mambuay Tando, 58 (Deputy Bn Cmdr, 105BC, CMF, BIAF-MILF); Fausto Calimpas Guinita, 40 (Pltn Ldr, 105BC, CMF, BIAF-MILF); Sangbaan Obinay Acut, 58 (Intel Offr, 105BC, CMF, BIAF-MILF).

The arrested individuals are all residents of Brgy. Koreo, SND, Lanao del Norte.

The two others were Tristan Bendecion Baguio, 34 (LGU Employee of Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur); and Resil Bacsan Revillas. Both are residents of Brgy. Poblacion, Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur.

The assorted firearms and explosives that were confiscated include 1 pc. CZ Scorpion SMG, 9MM SNF249581; 2 pcs. CZ Mags 35rds cap; 1 unit M4 Bushmaster NO SN; 1 unit M14 Rifle SN144366; 2 pcs. M14 Mags 23 - rds 7.62mm; 1 pc. cal. 45 Thompson SMG with scope and defaced serial number; 2 pcs. Magazine for Thompson SMG 30rds cap; 1 unit Elisco M16A1 Rifle SN RP033161; 1 unit Elisco M16A1 Rifle SN RP174676; 1 unit Elisco M16A1 Rifle SN RP052219; 1 unit Cal.50 Barret homemade; 1 unit RPG Launcher; 3 pcs. RPG Heat ammunition; 1 pc. RPG booster; 1 pc. Rifle Grenade; 1 pc. Cal.45 REMINGTON SN 563582; 1pc. Cal.45 COLT SN634712; 1pc. Cal.45 REMINGTON SN 756621; 1pc. Cal.9MM BERETTA SN M21813Z; 1pc. Cal. 45 Compact COLT MK SN735159; 1pc. Cal.38 Smith and Wesson Revolver with defaced SN; 22 pcs. M16 Steel Short Magazine; 6 pcs. M16 Long Magazine; 270 rds. 5.56mm; 85 rds. 9mm; 45 rds. cal.45; 13 rds. 12 Gauge Shotgun; 12 rds. cal. 38; 5 pcs. cal. 45 Mags; 2 pcs. 9mm Beretta Magazine; 1 pc. Cal. 50 Barret Mag; 49 rds. Cal. 50 Barret; 1 pc. Hunting Knife; 38 pcs. 1 thousand peso bill; 6 pcs. 500 peso bill; 2 pcs. 200 peso bill; 13 pcs.100 peso bill; 2 pcs. 50 peso bill; and 5 pcs. 20 peso bill.

Arrested suspects and confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to Camp Major Eduardo Gallego, in Pigcarangan, Tubod, Lanao del Norte for documentation and further disposition.

LDN PPO Provincial Director Police Colonel Isaias A. Bacurnay Jr., commended the responding PNP personnel for a job well done in their serious commitment to implement a Secure, Accurate, Free and Fair National and Local Elections 2022.
