The huge turnout of voters could have been more huge. Thousands who lined up for hours to fulfill their duty were turned away at 7 pm – who was around to measure 30 meters, counting from what line, space, or structure? In addition, 915 vote counting machines had to be replaced – guess how many more could not arrive at the voting centers on time? By the time the next elections happen in 2025, last Monday’s senior citizens will be three years older -- please don’t force them to climb one or two floors to cast their vote.
It’s not over ‘til it’s over, the clear winner warned as his supporters cheered and gathered in his hq on EDSA. It took the outgoing mayor of Manila and losing presidential candidate, fourth placer Isko Moreno, to ask the People of the Philippines to support the winning team and avoid joining any group out to create trouble. “Let us respect the people’s decision. Life must go on. We must respect the choice of our countrymen.”
