Aklan governor's son wins gubernatorial race

ILOILO CITY -- Governor Florencio 'Joeben' Miraflores of Aklan province will soon be replaced by his son.

His son, incumbent Ibajay mayor Jose Enrique ‘Joen’ Miraflores, handily won in the four-way gubernatorial race, receiving 196,897 votes from 17 municipalities.

His closest rival, former mayor William Lachica of Kalibo town, garnered only 112,053 votes.

Governor Miraflores announced last year that he is retiring from his more than three decades of political career this year.

He first served as governor from 1995 to 2004. He was again elected in 2013 and is currently serving his third and final term.

Aside from being governor, he was also a congressman and mayor of his hometown of Ibajay.

Incumbent vice Governor Reynaldo ‘Boy’ Quimpo has been reelected. Quimpo emerged victorious in a three-way race with 143,761 votes.

Also reelected are Congressmen Carlito Marquez and Ted Haresco Jr. for Aklan’s 1st and 2nd Districts, respectively.

Elected into the Aklan Provincial Board were Nemesio Neron, Mark Quimpo, Mark Bautista, Teddy Tupas, and Apolinar Cortes Cleope for the 1st District, and Jay Tejada, Romeo Dalisay, Jupiter Gallenero, Jojo Cordova, and Plaridel Solidum for the 2nd District.
