Adamson hands UP first loss

Adamson handed University of the Philippines its first loss with a 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, 25-11 win in the UAAP Season 84 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Thursday, May 12.

It was a total team effort as Trisha Genesis led the Lady Falcons' balanced attack with 11 spikes, two blocks, and two service aces for 15 points.

Lorene Toring reinforced the net defense with four blocks for 14 markers, while Lucille Almonte and Kate Santiago chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively, for Adamson.

The Lady Maroons fought gallantly and went for a second-set equalizer but seemed to run out of gas down the stretch as star rookie Alyssa Bertolano finished 15 points off 14 attacks and a service ace.

Despite the win, Lady Falcons head coach Lerma Giron stressed that the squad still has a lot to improve on.

"Kumbaga para kang nagtitimpla ng kape, kailangan mong alamin kung matabang, matamis, so hanggang makuha mo yung tamang timpla," assessed Giron as Adamson improved to a 2-2 record while UP slipped to a 3-1 record.

The Lady Maroons' loss was a plus for the National Lady Bulldogs, who remained unbeaten in four matches atop the standings.

Adamson led by as many as 10 points in the fourth and final frame, 17-7, and took hold of the gap for as long as it can for the win.

UP cannot put a stop to Adamson's assault as Toring pumped in twice on the service area to spark its mini 4-0 blitz en route to a 23-10 cushion.
