The local government units of Valenzuela, Caloocan, and Quezon (QC) have started the removal of tarpaulins and other campaign materials used during the recent national and local elections.
Valenzuela City Public Sanitation and Cleanliness Office (PSCO) Clean and Green Division officer-in-charge Mr. Jojo Ignacio told Manila Bulletin that they started their clearing operations on Tuesday, May 10, one day after election day, as ordered by incumbent Mayor Rex Gatchalian to maintain the city’s cleanliness and orderliness.

He said that they have deployed eight trucks with around 50 personnel who are tasked to remove all the campaign materials, including illegal advertisements posted on streetlights and other public areas, within seven days.
Ignacio added that once all the campaign materials are removed and collected, they will be coordinating with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for the proper disposal of the items.
The Quezon City Department of Public Order (DPOS) and Safety and Task Force for Transport and Traffic Managemanent (TFTTM), and Department of Sanitation and Cleanup Works also began to remove posters in the city on Wednesday morning, May 11.
Mr. Dexter Cardenas, TFTTM officer-in-charge, said that the have deployed around 150 personnel and four trucks on Wednesday to clear Maginhawa, Masaya, and Malingap Streets in Diliman of election campaign paraphernalia.
According to Cardenas, the city’s Law and Order Cluster will meet on deploying around 1,000 personnel to remove the posters in the city’s six districts.
He said the operations seek to prevent clogging of the city’s drainage. The collected materials will be brought to the Manila Seedling Bank in Quezon Boulevard for proper disposal.
Meanwhile, the Caloocan City Department of Public Safety and Traffic Management and the Caloocan Environmental Management Department also started the clearing operations in the city on Wednesday.
The DPSTM said the campaign materials will be recycled.
“Ang ating mithiin na patuloy na mas mapaganda at mapaunlad ang Caloocan ay maisakatuparan natin basta't tayo ay nagkakaisa at nagtutulungan para sa ating mahal na lungsod (Our goal to continue to develop and beautify Caloocan will be achieved as long as we are united and we help each other),” Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan said in a Facebook post.
