Scattered rains to persist over most of Mindanao due to ITCZ

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), an area where winds from the northeast and southeast converges that triggers thunderstorms and rains, will continue to prevail over most of Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday afternoon, May 11.
In its 4 p.m. weather forecast, PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over Caraga, Davao Region, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and Soccsksargen.
PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides because of the occurrence of moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to experience hot and humid weather due to the prevalence of the easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean.
In its extended weather outlook for key areas from May 12 to 15, PAGASA said that maximum air temperatures may reach 33-35 degrees Celsius (℃) in Metro Manila, 33-35℃ in Tuguegarao City, 24-26℃ in Baguio City, 31-32℃ in Tagaytay City, 32-33℃ in Puerto Princesa City, 32-33℃ in Metro Cebu, 30-31℃ in Metro Davao, and 31-32℃ in Zamboanga City.
PAGASA, however, said there remains a possibility of afternoon or evening rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
It advised the public to stay vigilant during severe thunderstorms, which are often associated with bursts of heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, and gusty winds that usually last up to two hours, as these may trigger flash floods or landslides.
