Legarda thanks Antiqueños, other Filipinos who supported her Senate comeback bid
House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda on Wednesday said she is grateful to the Filipinos who supported her bid for a Senate comeback.
The three-term senator is among the frontrunners in the May 2022 senatorial race, ranking second, as shown in the latest partial and unofficial tally of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
“Maraming salamat sa pagbibigay sa akin ng panibagong pagkakataon na maipagpatuloy ang aking nasimulan (Thank you for giving me a new chance to pursue what I have started),” Legarda said in a statement.
“Ang resulta ng eleksyon ay patunay lamang na buo ang inyong pagtitiwala sa aking kakayahang maging boses ninyo muli sa Senado. Asahan n’yong hinding-hindi ko kayo bibiguin (The results of the elections is proof of your full trust on my capability to be your voice in the Senate. Expect that I will try my best to fulfill this),” she affirmed.
She said a new six-year term in the Senate, a mandate given to her, inspires her to work even harder for the future generations as she continues to push for the advocacies she has espoused for decades now—to bring government programs closer to the people, especially the marginalized and vulnerable, and to ensure an inclusive, equitable, resilient and sustainable growth and recovery for all.
Legarda, who served as Antique Representative for three years, also expressed her deep appreciation for all Antiqueños who had moved her to do more in public service.
“The stories of Antique and my kasimanwa led me to decide to run for the Senate once again,” she said.
“Kung nagawa po nating maibangon at paunlarin ang isang probinsyang salat at matagal na napag-iwanan sa loob lamang ng tatlong taon, kayang-kaya din nating gawin ito sa ibang probinsya sa ating bansa (If we were able to develop and prosper a province that has long been deprived and neglected in a matter of three years, then we can also do it to other provinces in our country),” Legarda said.
“All we need is the passion and perseverance to serve and provide programs that are pro-people. Elections should not just be an opportunity for us to gain fresh mandate, but also a chance for us to renew the people’s trust in our vision to improve their lives,” she reiterated.
