Briones welcomes Sara Duterte's prospective DepEd post

Incumbent Education Secretary Leonor Briones welcomed on Wednesday, May 11, the possibility of vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte leading the Department of Education (Deped).

She made the statement the same day presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. 's announcement of Duterte's eventual Cabinet post under his eventual administration.

Both Marcos and Duterte hold the current lead in the presidential and vice presidential race, respectively.

"I welcome the announcement by Presidential frontrunner Bongbong Marcos that incoming Vice President Sara Duterte will concurrently serve as Department of Education Secretary," she said.

She stated that she and the entire DepEd family are ready to work with her team for the orderly transition of DepEd leadership.

She added that they will turn over the Basic Education Plan 2030, the first time that an outgoing administration will leave behind a medium-term plan.

"We are confident that DepEd will be in able hands and anticipate a continuity," Briones said.
