‘’The people have made their choice. I accept the will of the people.’’
Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III issued this statement as the lead of presidential candidate former Senator Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and vice presidential candidate Davao city Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio over their rivals in the May 9, 2022 national elections appeared difficult to surmount based on the latest partial, unofficial election tally.
In a statement, Sotto, the running mate of presidential candidate Senator Panfilo M. Lacson., said: ‘’We presented an alternative for a better system in governance and politics but the electorate had their minds conditioned elsewhere.’’
‘’Our word of honor and loyalty are of far greater importance than an election win. I am glad that I did not yield to any political pressure to change my principles and kept my integrity intact till the end,’’ he stressed. ‘’Godspeed to our new President and Vice President and I quote from the Holy Book -JOSHUA 24:15, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD,’’ he added.
The unofficial tallies of the vote of Marcos and Carpio show them far ahead over their rivals.
The partial, unofficial tally showed Lacson on the fifth slot in the 10-man presidential race while Sotto is in the third position.
