PPCRV on minimal delays of showing unofficial count: We're not about speed, but accuracy

If the figures of the unofficial count of the election results shown by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) is not similar to the ones released by the media, it is because the poll watchdog is verifying the numbers first.

This was clarified by PPCRV legal affairs director and spokesperson Vann Dela Cruz at a press briefing on Tuesday, May 10.

"t PPCRV, we're not about speed, hindi kami nakikipag-contest sa (we are not competing with the) media but we're about accuracy," Dela Cruz said.

The lawyer explained that they do the initial verification first before it is reflected on their monitors both in their command center and website. He also noted that what the people can see on their monitors are also the same data received by the media.

He said they first conduct the verification "because people are looking into what the PPCRV monitor is showing."

"But right now kasi tiwala naman tayo na (we are confident that ) what the media is showing is also the same thing that we are showing," the legal director said.

"But of course, once we reach that certain percentage, rest assured that it's also going to be the same number. Again, we receive simultaneously, realtime. Ang pinagkaiba lang namin sa media is that bago namin ipakita diyan sa screen namin (What we do differently from the media is), we're just doing the verification," Dela Cruz said.

The PPCRV, a Catholic church-based poll watchdog, is now focusing on the second part of its mandate which is to do manual validation.

"Yung (The) unofficial parallel count ni (of) PPCRV, dalawa po 'yan, e (is actually two things), one is the electronically transmitted returns, second part yung (is the) manual validation that takes longer," Dela Cruz further said.

He said they are expecting all of the electronically transmitted results from precincts to arrive on Tuesday while the election returns from precincts are expected to be sent from several provinces starting on the same day.
