Vico Sotto wins second term as Pasig City mayor

Incumbent Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto secured a second term to provide open and honest governance to Pasig citizens after winning in the May 9 local elections.

He was proclaimed by the City Board of Canvassers (CBC) on Tuesday morning, May 10, after around 12 hours of canvassing of votes from a total of 612 precincts.

Sotto garnered 335, 851 votes based on the final tally of the CBC.

Proclaimed along with him was his running mate, new Vice Mayor Robert "Dodot" Jaworski Jr., who received 205, 250 votes.

Sotto's long-time political ally in the House of Representatives, Congressman Roman Romulo, also won with 304, 157 votes.

During the canvassing of votes, Sotto and majority of his slate in Giting ng Pasig were projected to win.

With 100 percent election returns received, in the partial, unofficial count via the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Transparency Media Server as of 6:17 a.m., Sotto's opponent, former Vice Mayor Christian "Iyo" Caruncho-Bernardo received 45, 604 votes.

Jaworski's rivals, Jun Jun Concepcion and Christian Sia got 87, 716 and 76, 028 votes, respectively.

Sotto said he will continue with the changes and progress he began in the city. As his first term was marked by cleansing the local government of corruption, he aims to start utilizing government funds more efficiently.

With a majority city council from his team's slate, Giting ng Pasig, he believes the conduct of business would be easier, and there will be more "vibrant and lively discourses and discussions."

Amid the transition period and the Covid-19 pandemic that faced him during his first term as mayor, Sotto acknowledged the victories and remained optimistic in providing better service and good governance to the people of Pasig.

He won a landslide victory against then incumbent Mayor Robert “Bobby” Eusebio in the 2019 local elections, breaking the dynastic rule of the Eusebio clan in Pasig City.

Prior to becoming mayor, Sotto served as city councilor in Pasig.
