Senatorial hopeful Chel Diokno on Tuesday wished that the victory of the winning candidates is also the victory of the Filipino people as unofficial and partial election results showed Tuesday he was lagging behind his rivals slated to enter the Senate "Magic 12."
While Diokno called on his supporters to continue monitoring the developments of the elections and call for explanation in the irregularities, he said the results of the quick count were clear.
"Sa isang demokrasya, karapat-dapat na tanggapin ang pasiya ng taumbayan (In a democratic country, it's just rightful to accept the decision of the people)," he said in a Twitter post.
"Sa mga nanalo, ibinigay sa inyo ang mandato at kapangyarihan ng gobyerno. Ipinagdarasal ko na ang inyong tagumpay ay tagumpay rin para sa lahat ng Pilipino (To those who won, you are given the mandate and the power of the government. I'm praying that your victory is the victory of the Filipino people)," he added.
Diokno said it really hurts to accept the results of the elections, considering the amount of time, effort and money dedicated to win. But he urged his supporters not to lose hope and love for the country.
"Patuloy nating tulungan ang mga nangangailangan, at manatili tayong mapagmatyag para sa ating kinabukasan. Ang bawat pagsisikap natin ay isang hakbang pasulong sa mahabang martsa (Let's continue helping those in need and let's remain vigilant for our future. Each of our sacrifice is a step towards a longer march)," he said.
"Tuloy ang ating paglalakbay tungo sa isang makatarungan, makatao, at maunlad na bansa (We will continue our journey towards a fair, humane and developed country)," he added.
