The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is not discounting the possibility of the voter turnout in the May 9 polls exceeding 2016.

Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo revealed that the partial voter turnout is already at 80 percent.
"We have around 80.38 voter turnout. We are expecting this to still increase... We still have 1,000 plus (VCMs) yet to transmit," he said in a press briefing Tuesday, May 10.
Casquejo said the voter turnout in 2016 was almost 81 percent, and 70 percent in 2019.
"Now we are at 80.38 percent. So we expect similar turnout or much higher than 2016. We all know that more are interested to vote during the presidential elections," he said.
"We are nearing that mark. We are likely to reach 81 percent or even more than that," he added.
Casquejo said the high voter interest contributed to this.
"They really want their votes to be counted. That's where it can attributed to, in the interest of voters," he said.
