SAN NICOLAS, Pangasinan--Vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara did something special for this sleepy town, something that would stay with the people here long after they cast their ballots on May 9.

On Saturday, April 30, San Nicolas, a 1st class municipality with a population of just roughly 40,000 people, received the attention amd fanfare that came with having a national level candidate in its midst.
Congressional candidate and former Pangasinan 6th district Rep. Marlyn “Len” Agabas swears this is the first time that a national bet came to visit the town during a campaign period.
"Gaya po ng nasabi ko kanina, sa bayan po ng San Nicolas, ito po ay isang kasaysayan. Never in the history, sa aking pagkakaalam sa bayan ng San Nicolas na nagkaroon po ng ganitong rally ng national (Like what I said earlier, this is historic for the town of San Nicolas. As far as I know, never in the history of San Nicolas town had there been a national level campaign rally like this)," Agabas said.
The result was a fiesta atmosphere here, with people dying to obtain any piece of campaign paraphernalia they could get their hands on-- from t-shirts to umbrella.
An amusing coincidence that added to the ambience was the municipal government's holiday decor, which it had yet to keep despite it already being summer. The decor was of course themed red and green--coveniently, the same colors as the UniTeam alliance of the visiting Duterte and presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos.

"So ma'am, hinding hindi po namin makakalimutan, lalong lalo na't alam namin na sa tulong ng poong maykapal at sa tulong ng buong ika-anim na distrito ng Pangasinan at ng buong Pilipinas, alam po namin na kayo po ang susunod na bise presidente ng Pilipinas (So ma'am, we will never forget this, especially since we know that with the help of God and the people of Pangasinan's 6th district and that of the entire Philippines, you will be the next vice president of the Philippines)," added Agabas, who hosted the rally.
Agabas also said that she believes Duterte will be the “best vice president of the Republic of the Philippines".
Speaking to a crowd under the pouring rain, Duterte, who has consistently led pre-election surveys, said she will push for job generation, quality education, and peace and order as top priorities in her vice presidential bid.
She also thanked the local folk for staying and giving their time to meet and listen to her advocacies for the country.
“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa oras at oportunidad na ibinigay ninyo sa akin ngayong araw na ito. Kahit na umuulan ay nandito po kayo para mag-welcome sa amin (I thank you for the time and opportunity that you gave me today. Amid the rain, you were here to welcome us),” the presidential daughter and Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) chairperson said.
Based on the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec) latest data for the May 9 polls, Pangasinan province, along with Dagupan City, is the third most vote-rich province in the Philippines with 2,096,936 voters.
