Park Bogum officially discharged from Korean military, writes letter to fans

Korean actor Park Bogum, 28, was officially discharged from the military on April 30 and wrote a letter to fans about it.

The actor who starred in Korean dramas such as “Record of Youth,” “Reply 1988” and “Encounter,” enlisted in the Korean Navy on Aug. 31, 2020 and became a member of the military band.

He served in the Navy for 20 months and last Feb. 21, Park Bogum left the Navy headquarters in Gyeryong, South Chungcheong province in South Korea for his last vacation.

He used all his remaining personal and pre-discharge leave credits until his official discharge on April 30. Under military guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19), an enlisted individual is not required to return to his unit when he uses his personal leave credits before his discharge.

In the Navy, he passed the government license exam for a barber held last December.

Park Bogum’s first official schedule after his discharge is to be an emcee together with Shin Dong-yup and Suzy at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards to be held on May 6.

On April 30, Park Bogum uploaded a letter on his fan cafe to greet fans and inform them of his official discharge.

“Republic of Korea Navy Sergeant Park Bogum was ordered to be discharged on April 30, 2022,” he said.

He added, “Hello. It is nice to meet again on a warm spring day after seven seasons. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Bogum Welfare Department Ministry of Health and Welfare of Bogum for being a lifelong friend who gives strength in this wide world, and for being with me by expressing your undying love and support.”

He added, ““When I started my service in the Navy, I spent 20 months accomplishing the small things I set out to do. I used my personal maintenance time to exercise, read books, get technical qualifications, and fill them with meaningful moments.”

“It is a pity that the end of my naval life was over because I was able to fully look at myself and get to know myself during this time when some days are slow and some days are fast,” he said.

Park Bogum added, “Most of all, there were good times because I met gentlemen who respected and cared for each other. I hope you have a peaceful day where you can smile and say ‘today was fine’ or ‘it was good’ at the end of the day.”
