Greg Slaughter: No contract talks yet with NorthPort

NorthPort center Greg Slaughter revealed that the Batang Pier management has yet to reach out to him after his contract expired last January.

The 7-foot big man took to the social media to clear the air regarding his status with his current team, claiming that the Mikee Romero-owned franchise has ceased communication with him.

“For everyone asking me about the rumors surrounding my status with the PBA, let me make things clear: I expired at the end of January and talked to our team manager about extending. After our meeting he said he would get back to me. I never heard back then my contract expired,” shared Slaughter in an Instagram post.

According to Slaughter, it was the same reason why he failed to finish the conference with NorthPort. He played for four games for the Batang Pier in the Governors’ Cup prior to the league break due to the Covid-19 spike last January but hasn’t been re-inserted to the lineup since then.

It was the situation he had with Ginebra when he decided to go on a sabbatical after the 2019 season after a talk of contract extension between his camp and the Gin Kings management fell through.

Slaughter then signed a one-year deal with Ginebra before he was shipped to NorthPort on a one-on-one trade with Christian Standhardinger.

“I cannot choose where I want to play in the PBA and I have volunteered my services to the National Team multiple times this year with no acceptance. My rights are held by NorthPort who has ceased communication with me about staying in the PBA,” wrote Slaughter

“It is similar to when I expired with Ginebra and was given no offer until weeks after I expired thus retaining my rights,” he furthered.

Nonetheless, Slaughter continues with his training and keeps himself ready in case the opportunity comes.

“I am continuously learning, training, and getting better every day, preparing for wherever I play next,” the post ended.
