Robredo honors courageous Filipinos amid crisis on Araw ng Kagitingan

Vice President Leni Robredo paid tribute to Filipinos who showed courage in times of crisis as she joined the country in commemorating Araw ng Kagitingan or The Day of Valor.

"Ginugunita at binibigyang-pugay natin ang mga Pilipinong nagpakita ng tapang sa panahon ng kagipitan (We commemorate and pay tribute to Filipinos who showed courage in times of crisis)," Robredo said in a statement on Saturday, April 9.

"Mga humarap sa malaki at malakas na kalaban, pumalag, at napilitang magbaba ng armas ngunit di kailanman binitawan ang pag-asa: Na sa kabila ng kadiliman, may liwanag na nag-aabang. Kailangan lang magsikap at magtiwala (Those who faced a powerful enemy, fled, and were forced to lay down their arms but never lose hope: That despite the darkness, there is a light that is waiting. We just have to work hard and have faith)," she continued.

The presidential candidate likewise hoped that the historical truth will light the path of our country in the future.

"Nawa’y patuloy na tanglawan ng katotohanan ng kasaysayan ang landas ng ating bansa (May the truth of our history continue to illuminate the path of our country)," Robredo added.

The country commemorates April 9 of every year as Araw ng Kagitingan to honor the Filipino war veterans who died or served the country.

The national holiday remembers the brave Filipino fighters who fought alongside American soldiers during World War II.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Day of Valor with the theme “Kagitingan ng mga Beterano, Inspirasyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino."
