A new champion will be crowned at the end of the MPL Philippines Season 9 as Omega Esports dethroned the two-time MPL champions Blacklist International with a pulsating 2-0 sweep on Saturday, April 9.

Only needing a victory to secure its spot to the playoffs, Omega made sure to end the series of futility and exacted its revenge against the same team that shattered its dreams in the past two seasons.
Blacklist, which defeated the Omega players (then-Execration) in the Grand Finals of Season 7 and in the lower bracket finals of Season 8, still had the chance to make it to the playoffs despite being on the bitter end of the Omega’s 16-11 come-from-behind win in Game 1.
It was a back-and-forth action in Game 2 as the two squads traded blows in the late game..
Blacklist had the upper hand in the early goings of Game 2 but Omega was first to secure the Lord after a pick-off on Kiel “Oheb” Soriano’s Popol and Kupa in the midlane.
Blacklist players though held on to their dear tournament lives as they managed to survive three Lord marches with the help of Hadji’s Yve and Edward’s Benedetta.
The defending champions also had their chances late with their own pushes but Omega prevailed in the deciding clash at the 29-minute mark as Ch4knu’s Chou and Kelra’s Clint executed a perfect flank behind Blacklist players who were busy taking down Renzio’s Masha.
Omega secured a four-man wipe in that clash, officially eliminating Blacklist with 19-13 win.
E2max shone on the new hero Xavier with a 7-4-6 KDA, none bigger than his double kill in the final clash of the match. Raizen on the tank Baxia provided the sustain to also finish with a 4-2-7 line.
With Blacklist’s loss, Nexplay Evos also advanced to the next round.
Blacklist had the full control of the opening salvo as it dominated Omega in every clash behind Edward’s Dyrroth and Oheb’s Lunox.
However, a kill on Kevier’s Ling in the top lane opened a window of opportunity for Omega, taking advantage of its number in the next Lord dance to secure the major objective on top of two hero kills on Blacklist.
Omega then went for the death push in the next play to formally punch its ticket to the next round.
