Arrogance has no place in a decent society.
This was presidential candidate Senator Panfilo Lacson's barb against the alleged attempt of Vice President Leni Robredo's camp to have him and two other presidential candidates withdraw in her favor for the sake of unification.
‘’Itong babaeng ito doble (This woman is a double)... nagsisinungaling sa akin o sinungaling sa interview (she lied to me or she lied during an interview). She lost my respect to tell it more frankly or clearly,’’ Lacson said during a one-hour media forum sponsored by Kamuning Bakery Cafe in Quezon City Saturday, April 9.
The two other presidential bets reportedly approached by the Robredo camp to withdraw so that there would be a ‘’one-on-one’’ fight for the Palace seat are Senator Manny Pacquiao and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
The one-on-one scenario is supposed to be between Robredo and the survey frontrunner, former Senator Ferdinand ‘’Bongbong’’ Marcos.
Lacson recalled that he and Robredo talked and that he offered suggestions for the sake of unification that she wanted.
He said he offered Sotto to become their common vice presidential candidate.
‘’Pag April nakita nating may clear chance of winning mag withdraw ang isa sa atin (When April comes and there is a clear chance of winning, one of us will withdraw). Sabi niya it won’t work kasi nangyari sa kanya tumakbo siya sa local nag-withdraw siya and may stray votes pa rin sa kanya (She said it would not work because it happened to her when she ran for a local post that she withdrew, there were still stray votes for her). That’s fine,’’ he said.
‘’Ito ang nawala ako ng respeto sa kanya, when she was interviewed she contradicted herself... kasi pag ako nag-file tuloy na yan di ako aatras (It was at this point that I lost respect for her when she was interviewed and that she contradicted herself. When I file my certificate of candidacy, I will fiight all the way and not back out),’’ he added
Before the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the presidency, Marcos, during an interview at the same Kamuning venue months ago, said he would be running because he has a plateful of solutions to the problems of the Filipino people compared to Robredo’s statement that she would run to prove that she really won the 2016 vice presidential race against Marcos.
‘’Anong klaseng unification? Unification for her? Parang mali (It seems wrong),’’ Lacson said of offers to him, Pacquiao, and Moreno to withdraw from the race.
‘’Decency deserves respect even from arrogance. Wag masyadong arogante (Don’t be too arrogant),’’ he added.
Lacson said he and vice presidential candidate Senate President Vicente Sotto III are fighting for the Filipino people, ‘’not to defeat any particular candidate".
‘’Yan ang ino-offer namin sa electorate (That is what we offer to the electorate). Wag sila masyadong cocky at arrogant na gusto paatrasin lahat at one on one (They should not be that cocky and arrogant, asking us to withdraw for a one-on-one),’’ he stressed.
‘’That we cannot accept and we reject,’’ he added.
