BAGUIO CITY – All roads lead to Summer Capital as more than 80,000 travel registrations of tourists have been approved just for the Holy Week break alone, and the number is expected to increase further in the days to come.

City tourism officer Aloysius Mapalo said that the approved travel registrations could still dramatically increase in the days to come as the Holy Week gets closer. The Holy Week is set April 11-17.
Mapalo said that Holy Thursday, April 14, has the biggest registrations at 19,342 so far as of April 7. The number may still increase up to 40,000 until the day before.
He said the city has not re-imposed a cap on the number of travelers allowed but Mayor Benjamin Magalong made it a point that safety protocols and other measures remain in place for the establishment owners, tourists and residents to observe.
The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) has mounted “Oplan Summer Vacation” to maintain peace and order. It has partnered with volunteer groups to provide motorist and road safety assistance for the whole duration.
Approved travel registration figures as of April 7 are the following: Apr. 8 – 14,491; Apr. 9 – 15,934; Apr. 10 – 5,329; Apr. 11 – 3,515; Apr. 12 – 3,142; Apr. 13 – 7,998; Apr. 14 – 19,342; Apr. 15 – 5,393; Apr. 16 – 3,941; and Apr. 17 – 1,379.
“On preparing for the influx of tourists they have established a task force that will manage the situation during the Holy Week. Right now, the security plans are in place, including the deployment of security forces,” Magalong said.
Visitors need to bring their vaccination card, register with visita.baguio.gov.ph, and work closely with their hotel accommodation because the hotels will be approving the registration.
Motorists should make sure they have their own parking area when they get inside Baguio. Parking would be a nightmare during this time of Holy Week.
