PRO 7 seizes P200-million worth of shabu, nabs more than 8,000 suspects in intensified campaign for 1st quarter of 2022
CEBU CITY -- More than P200 million worth of illegal drugs were seized in Central Visayas for the first quarter of the year, according to a report by the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7).
The January- March period also saw the arrest of 8,113 individuals in the intensified campaign against illegal drugs, said Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega, regional director of PRO 7.
Vega said the significant amount of seized illegal drugs and the number of arrested drug suspects were the result of policing strategies that strengthened the operational capability of PRO7.
During the period, the PRO 7 seized 29,593.20 grams of shabu with a standard drug price (SDP) of P201,233,760.
The PRO 7 also confiscated 2,528.10 grams of marijuana with an estimated value of P303,372.
The PRO 7 added that a total of 1,949 operations were conducted in the campaign against wanted persons, which resulted in the arrest of 337 “most wanted persons” and 1,731 “other wanted persons.”
Of the arrests, 21 were classified as regional, 24 provincial, 101 municipal, 162 cities, and 29 were station-level most wanted persons.
In the campaign against illegal gambling, the most prevalent were “Swertres” followed by illegal cockfighting and illegal card games. In PRO 7’s 1,653 operations, 4,077 were arrested while P419,426.50 cash was seized.
In the campaign against loose firearms, 559 were apprehended in the 293 operations conducted. At least 612 and five explosives were seized or surrendered.
“PRO 7 is on the watch 24/7 due to the upcoming elections. We appeal to the public to help us maintain a peaceful and orderly Central Visayas, especially as the campaign season intensifies,” said Vega.
