DSWD extends over P1.7-M worth of assistance to Taal evacuees

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has so far provided over P1.7 million worth of assistance to families affected by the Taal Volcano’s unrest.

DSWD Secretary Rolando Joselito D. Bautista said they have delivered 703 family food packs, 1,406 ready-to-eat food packs, and 703 hygiene kits in Agoncillo, Batangas.

It has also distributed 565 family food packs in Laurel, Batangas.

Aside from food and non-food items, Bautista said the DSWD also provided financial assistance, under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program, worth P14,000 to seven beneficiaries in Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas.

As the lead agency of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s Camp Coordination and Camp Management Cluster, the DSWD, through its field office in Calabarzon, also provided psychosocial interventions to displaced families staying in evacuation centers.

DSWD is also working closely with concerned local government units (LGUs), to monitor the condition of at least 2,800 families or around 9,500 persons in 21 barangays in the province of Batangas.

Of the number of affected families, about 1,100 families or 4,000 persons are currently taking temporary shelter in 21 evacuation centers, while the rest are staying with relatives and friends.

As of April 5, DSWD has positioned in advance food and non-food items amounting to P1.19 billion in strategic locations around the country.

It assured the public of continuous assistance to concerned LGUs in conducting Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis and other necessary augmentation support if needed.
