Bahio hits game-winning putback as Red Lions survive Stags
JB Bahio hit the game-winning putback as San Beda escaped San Sebastian, 61-60, to preserve its perfect record through four games in the NCAA Season 97 at the La Salle Green Hills Gym on Friday, April 8.

Bahio only finished with four points but nailed the most important basket with 0.4 seconds left, cleaning up the miss from the initial drive of Ralph Penuela who released a wild layup against two Stags defenders in the dying moments.
San Beda prevailed in the see-saw affair that featured nine lead changes and eight deadlocks as James Kwekuteye topscored with 11 points, none bigger than his last three-pointer that gave his team a 59-58 lead with 25 ticks left in the game.
“We wanted to win this game,we were down and we have to make plays so I stepped up and made a big shot,” said Kwekuteye who admitted that the team was bothered by the Stags defense and physicality all-game long.
“I think the physicality of San Sebastian. They’re very aggressive but we came out in the end and win the game so I’m proud of my team,” he added.
The Stags had the chance to retake the lead but their initial attack was foiled by the Red Lions, prompting JM Calma to take a jumper from the perimeter with two seconds left which never hit the rim.
Rommel Calahat however forced a turnover on San Beda in the next play before Arjan Dela Cruz dished out a perfect baseline inbound pass to Calahat who scored on a short stab with 6.8 seconds left.
Calma paced the Stags with 12 points while Calahat added 10 markers, eight of those he unloaded during in the payoff period. San Sebastian, however, badly missed the presence of Ichie Altamirano who was called for a disqualifying foul with 32 seconds left in the first.
It was a back-and-forth action at the start of the final salvo as the Stags took a 53-52 lead after Calahat and Kwekuteye traded baskets. Bahio tied the game but Calahat answered with another layup to keep the Stags afloat.
The action was momentarily halted after Franz Abuda and Michael Are figured in a huge collision while diving for the ball, leaving the former with boxer’s cut above his right eye.
