PBA summons Tolentino, Jose over Game 1 incident

The PBA Commissioner’s Office will summon Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s Arvin Tolentino and Meralco’s Raymar Jose to explain their side over a commotion that marred the end of the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals opener.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said he will talk to both players before Game 2 of the title series Friday, April 8 at the Mall of Asia Arena before deciding on whether to penalize Tolentino and Jose.

Tolentino and Jose had a heated exchange during the final seconds of Meralco’s 104-91 win over Ginebra at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

But the tension spilled into the Big Dome hallway, with cooler heads from both teams preventing Tolentino and Jose from coming to blows.

There were also claims by eyewitnesses that the two players continued their word war at the Big Dome parking area.

Meralco coach Norman Black later said that the incident seemed unnecessary, since the outcome was already decided.

Tolentino had six points and two rebounds in 21 minutes as starter for Ginebra while Jose played the final 56 seconds of the contest, scoring his two points from the foul line.
