The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday, April 7, revealed their plans to "Covid-proof" the May 2022 polls.

Included in the plan of the poll body is the creation of a medical advisory board.
Comelec Commissioner Aimee Neri said this is to "provide additional support in revisiting Covid-19 related guidelines and develop timely and more responsive policies."
She said the Comelec will also partner with the health and medical groups to setup medical desks that will help respond to the health-related issues of voters most specifically those belonging to the vulnerable group during election day.
The Comelec, Neri said, also plans to conduct a public simulation of voting in an isolation polling place.
"The IPP is said to be utilized in any case a voter should exhibit Covid-19 symptoms or any increase in body temparature so he or she could still vote despite these challenges," she said during their joint press conference with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Thursday, April 7.
Neri, the newly appointed chairman of the New Normal Committee of the Comelec, said despite the continued decrease in the number of Covid-19 cases the poll body must be fully prepared on the prevention of its transmission during the upcoming elections.
"While we exercise our right of suffrage we must also protect the sanctity of life and right to health or our population," she said
