An estimated 1. 2 million tricycle drivers and operators may be included in the recipients of the fuel subsidies as part of the government's assistance to the transport sector amid the oil price hikes, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said Thursday, April 7.
In a press briefing, Año said the DILG was mandated to instruct the local government units (LGUs) to prepare the list of names of the tricycle drivers and operators.
He noted that the list will then be submitted to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the agency tasked to make the cash aid distribution to the o beneficiaries.
“More or less ang estimate is about 1.2 million tricycle operators and drivers (The estimate is about 1.2 million tricycle operators and drivers). This list we are going to submit to the LTFRB. Sila pa rin ang mamimigay noon (They will be the ones to distribute them),’’ Año explained.
Año issued the statement when pressed if the DILG already forwarded the list to the LTFRB saying that the submission of names is an ongoing process.
In a GMA News report, Earlier, the LTFRB noted that it is still waiting for the list of tricycle drivers from the DILG.
In March, LTFRB started the distribution of P6,500 fuel subsidies to over 377,000 qualified public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators.
The subsidy could be claimed through cash cards issued by the Landbank of the Philippines that can be used in accredited fuel stations. (Chito A. Chavez)
