Suspect in shooting of motorcycle-riding man killed in a shootout with police

A suspect in the killing of a 30-year old man was killed during a shootout with police authorities in Barangay Doña Josefa, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay on Monday evening (April 4).

The police identified the slain suspect as Noel Bayawa Almonte, 58.

Almonte, according to the police, was the one who shot and killed Richard Nerosa Balanay as identified by the latter’s wife.

This prompted the police to go after Almonte who ran towards a hilly portion with his gun. He allegedly engaged the police in a shootout, but was hit as the police fired back.

The police brought Almonte to the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Recovered from the suspect were a .45 caliber pistol and a fired cartridge.
