The low pressure area (LPA) in Mindanao will continue to bring rains over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao within 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday morning, April 6.

Weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the LPA was in Laak, Davao de Oro at around 3 a.m.

There is still a slim chance that the LPA will develop into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours but PAGASA will continue to monitor this weather disturbance as it will still bring rains over most of Palawan and Mindanao and parts of Visayas, Castañeda said.

She pointed out that PAGASA is not yet ruling out the possibility of the LPA developing into a tropical cyclone while inside the country’s area of responsibility.

In the next 24 hours, Palawan and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms, while Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned the public against possible flash floods or landslides because of the occurrence of moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the northeasterly surface wind flow will prevail over the rest of the country.

Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Quezon will have cloudy skies with rains, while Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated light rains.

Castañeda said another LPA was monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) or 2,710 kilometers east of Mindanao at around 3 a.m.

The LPA has no direct effect yet on the country as of Wednesday, but Castañeda said this weather disturbance will probably enter the PAR and bring rains over the eastern sections of southern Luzon and Visayas in the next few days.
