Over 1M learners registered early for SY 2022-2023 so far: DepEd

More than a million students already participated in the ongoing Early Registration for School Year (SY) 2022-2023 based on the Department of Education (DepEd) data on Wednesday, April 6.

The Early Registration is an annual activity conducted by DepEd to ensure that incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners register ahead of the opening of the incoming school year.

The activity also aims to help the DepEd “better anticipate and deal with the possible challenges and concerns” for the upcoming school year.

The Early Registration enrollment data from DepEd showed 1,150, 890 Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 learners already registered early for SY 2022-2023.

DepEd said there were 7.4 million enrollees in these grade levels for SY 2021-2022.

As of April 6, Early Registration enrollment data showed that there are 251,711 (Kinder); 485, 976 (Grade 1); 277, 072 (Grade 7) and 176, 131 (Senior High School) who participated in the Early Registration that started on March 25 and will end on April 30, 2022.

Register early

Meanwhile, Education Secretary Leonor Briones urged parents and guardians to register their children as early as possible.

“The earlier, the better,” Briones said during the “Laging Handa” public briefing on April 6.

“We are trying to be as ‘normal’ as possible but at the same time, we respond to unusual requirements and unusual circumstances,” she explained.

Briones said that Early Registration will also help parents come up with informed decisions when it comes to their children's education.

“Decisions have to be made like right now, parents have choices,” Briones said. “If they want the child to participate in face-to-face , there are cost implications and arrangements which have to be made,” she added.

Briones explained that these are also part of the decisions that parents have to make “early enough” for them to take the appropriate action on “how best to maximize learning at this particular time.”
