Jeff Egan erupted for a career-high 26 points as University of Perpetual Help blew past Arellano University, 87-70, to arrest its two-game slide in the NCAA Season 97 on Wednesday, April 6 at the La Salle Green Hills Gym.

The Altas banked on their run and gun style to neutralize the taller and bigger Chiefs led by star center Justin Arana. Arellano failed to keep up with the quicker Perpetual side which dictated the tempo with its 25 fastbreak points spearheaded by Egan who tallied the highest single game scoring so far in the season.
Jielo Razon, who went scoreless on a 0-of-8 shooting from the field in the Altas’ 68-57 loss against the Letran Knights, bounced back with 14 points.
Rey Barcuma anchored the fastbreak attacks with 10 points and eight assists while rookie Mark Omega held his own against Arana with 15 rebounds, eight on the offensive end, to go along with his six points.
“'Yun 'yung gameplan talaga namin today against Arellano, sabi ko sa kanila takbuhan natin sila ng takbuhan,” said head coach Myk Saguiguit. “Doon lang naman kami namuhunan, sa condition nila, tapos fast-paced, run and gun, luckily, nagawa nila kanina.”
The Altas broke the game wide open in the second frame as Egan, Borcuma, and Razon joined the hands to erect the first double-digit spread of the game, 33-22, midway through the second quarter. Perpetual kept its foot on the gas pedal to build a 43-27 advantage at the half.
Justin Arana and Jordan Sta.Ana strung some baskets to start the second half to cut the lead down to 13 but Perpetual retaliated with a 10-3 spurt to stretch the lead back to 20, 57-37.
Perpetual showed no mercy as it even built the biggest lead of the match at 23, 64-41 late in the third frame and never looked back to notch its second win in four games in the season.
There were anxious moments late in the game for Arellano as Arana, who led the team with 14 points and 12 rebounds, appeared to have hurt his injured knee and went down for a minute before managing to get back up and walk by himself to the bench.
Arellano absorbed its third straight defeat after opening the season with a 65-63 win over San Sebastian last March 27.
