Xyrus Torres caught fire and never lost steam as Far Eastern University torched University of the East, 88-74, in the UAAP Season 84 men's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Tuesday, April 5.

Torres, who was the Tamaraws' spark plug from the get-go, fired back-to-back triples at the start of the payoff period to maintain a 13-point advantage, 63-50, before Ximone Sandagon and Royce Alforque put the nail in the coffin as FEU ended its three-game losing skid and improved to a 2-3 record.
Torres dropped a career-high 26 points on a 9-of-18 shooting built on eight three-pointers while Emmanuel Ojoula had a monster double-double performance of 18 points on a 7-of-9 shooting and 19 rebounds.
Ljay Gonzales also contributed 13 points, eight assists, and four rebounds for the Tamaraws.
After a 33-point outing in FEU's 73-68 loss against National University, RJ Abarrientos had a dismal showing and was limited to two points on a 1-of-13 clip to go with five assists.
“Much needed victory after a three-game losing streak,” said FEU coach Olsen Racela. “Back to the drawing board ulit kami before facing ."
Torres and Jojo Antiporda had a fiery exchange from the three-point line heading into the fourth quarter but the FEU swingman had the last laugh after a breakaway layup to gain a 15-point advantage, 65-50.
After a quick exchange of baskets, Sandagon scored back-to-back points powered by a slam dunk off an Abarrientos no-look bounce pass as the Tamaraws pulled away for good and never looked back.
Kris Harvey Pagsanjan paced the Red Warriors, who remained winless in five games, with 23 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
