Northern Samar prov'l gov't adopts 4-day workweek

TACLOBAN CITY -- The Provincial Government of Northern Samar (PGNS) is adopting a 4-day workweek policy, in combination with a one-day work-from-home alternative work arrangement.

Governor Edwin Ongchuan issued a memorandum on April 1 authorizing a 4-day physical reporting of PGNS employees and one day for off-site work.

The order requires PGNS employees to still work on an 8-hour-a-day basis, from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. The one day allotted to work from home has the same time.

The steep and prohibitive prices of fuel prompted the governor to issue the policy to help reduce the daily transportation cost of employees and other incidental expenses entailed in going to their workplace and back.

The governor however directed the departments to keep their 5-day operations, from Mondays to Fridays, to ensure continuity in the delivery of services.

The employees will be divided into 2 groups, with one group reporting from Mondays to Thursdays, and another from Tuesdays to Fridays.

Through the said scheme, the governor stressed that basic services will not be hampered and will remain during weekdays.

Ongchuan added that policy does not apply to employees of the Provincial and District Hospitals, except those assigned at the Administrative and Finance Services Sections.

The order will take effect indefinitely, or until revoked.
