Muntinlupa court allows Sen. De Lima to undergo medical checkup

A Muntinlupa court has allowed reelectionist Sen. Leila de Lima to undergo medical checkup at a hospital in Manila.

Escorted by the police, the senator arrived at the Manila Doctors Hospital on April 5 where she will stay for 48 hours or until April 6.

In an order dated April 4, Presiding Judge Abraham Joseph Alcantara of the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court Branch 204 granted De Lima’s “very urgent motion for medical furlough” she filed on March 30.

“Wherefore, for medical and humanitarian considerations, the motion is granted,” according to the court, which is handling one of De Lima’s cases.

According to the court, De Lima requested the court for medical furlough based on the recommendations of her doctors “that she, again, immediately undergo executive/general check-up which includes a series of laboratory examination tests considering her medical history.”

“The Chief of the Custodial Service Unit, PNP Custodial Center (PNPCC), Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame, Quezon City is allowed to immediately bring accused Leila M. De Lima, provided that the latter is under proper police escorts at all times, to Manila Doctors Hospital, Kalaw Avenue, Manila for the conduct of” laboratory tests.

Some of the tests De Lima will undergo include chest X-ray, CT scan, colonoscopy, and urinalysis.

“Once the tests and the general medical examination are completed, the police escorts must immediately return the accused Leila M. De Lima to her detention facility at PNP Custodial Center (PNPCC), Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame, Quezon City,” the court said.

De Lima is running for reelection under presidential aspirant Leni Robredo’s ticket.
