How Chesca Garcia stays strong even after unsuccessful IVFs

Even her whole family is affected—every time

In an interview with Magandang Buhay moms, guest Chesca Garcia admitted that it has caused her and her family emotional stress. Having gone through three unsuccessful In Vitro Fertlization (IVF), she admitted that it has taken a toll on not just her, but on her family, too. And, because of this, they have decided to put off trying for the fourth time.

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a complex series of procedures used to help with fertility or prevent genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child. During IVF, mature eggs are collected (retrieved) from ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab," as stated in MayoClinic.org.

Host Jolina Magdangal started the conversation by asking Garcia how she felt to which she said that she was hard on herself. "Because in your mind, actually, when they put already the embryo, you are already pregnant... you're just waiting for it to grow and become a baby talaga."

"I think it's very hard for women who are doing IVF and expecting because you have a two-week wait window. Dun sa two weeks na yun, you're hoping that your period will not come. Kapag dumating siya, ibig sabihin fail siya," she adds, saying that her youngest and only son Gavin was excited to become an older brother.

Garcia isn't the only going through loss, her whole family is with her in this journey. "They're also going through something—'yung expecting, 'yung excitement and everything." She recounts how her son Gavin didn't want to hug and hold her, telling her, "I thought I'm going to be a kuya." She consoled her son by telling him, "Gavin, I also want to be pregnant. Mommy also wants to be pregnant but it's not for me to tell... And, you know, let's just take this as a way to thank the Lord that He probably is protecting mama also." That's when Gavin hugged her and apologized for his earlier reaction.

On coping with more than one failed IVF, she always finds solace and calmness through prayers. She revealed that she asked, "Lord, if you don't want us to have a baby anymore, please remove the longing and the wanting to have a baby." The couple shared earlier that they still want to try but have postponed another attempt for now.
