Will Gozum and Robi Nayve starred anew as College of St. Benilde beat Emilio Aguinaldo College, 78-68, to notch its third straight win in the NCAA Season 97 senior men’s basketball tournament at the La Salle Green Hills Gym on Tuesday, April 5.

Gozum and Nayve took turns in powering the Blazers against the stubborn Generals side who held their ground in the first three quarters before losing steam in the payoff period.
Gozum posted his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds as he anchored Blazers’ attack inside the paint in the first half.
With Gozum attracting the defense, the Blazers guards followed suit in the second half, this time dealing most of the damage from perimeter led by the 14 second-half points from Nayve who finished with 18 markers.
CSB used a 9-3 spurt bridging the third and the final frame to build the first double-digit spread of the game at 62-51 after a Jet Publico layup. EAC tried to climb its way back to the game behind the Ralph Robin who scattered 11 of his 21 points in the payoff period before going down with an ankle injury late.
But Benilde had the answers to every EAC run as Nayve and Prince Carlos played the fireman’s role to keep the Generals at bay for the rest of the game to improve to a 3-1 record good for the fourth spot in the standings.
The Blazers head coach Charles Tiu believed that controlling the boards was key to this victory as his wards outrebounded the Generals, 44-41. The Blazers even had two crucial offensive rebounds which Joshua Marcos converted into a short stab that put the dagger to the heart of the hard-fighting Generals, 78-67 with a little over a minute left.
"Finally, I think it’s the first game that we won the rebound battle. That’s one issue we wanted to address but still could be better,” said Tiu. “Overall, we had a much better game today, EAC is a tough team they have a lot of talented players, it was a hard-fought win.”
JC Luciano and Allen Liwag added 13 and 10 points respectively but weren’t enough as EAC absorbed its second loss in three games.
