Fancied United City held to scoreless draw by Mendiola

Mendiola FC 1991 held fancied United City FC to a shock scoreless draw Monday, April 4 in the Copa Paulino Alcantara at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona, Cavite.

Expected to concede all three points, Mendiola put in a determined effort led by goalkeeper Michael Asong to deny the 2020 Philippines Football League champions a victory in their final match before the AFC Champions League.

It was the first point Mendiola registered since the shortened 2020 PFL season.

The Bravemen lost all two matches in last year’s Copa and absorbed defeats to Maharlika-Manila and Azkals Development Team to begin the current Copa campaign.

United City ended a stretch of four games in almost two weeks with two wins and two draws for eight points, four above defending champion Kaya-Iloilo.

UCFC is scheduled to compete in the Champions League later this month in Pathum Thani, Thailand where it will face South Korea’s Jeonnam Dragons, Australia’s Melbourne City and host BG Pathum United.
