6 hospitalized due to ammonia leak in Navotas

Six persons were rushed to the hospital after inhaling ammonia that leaked from an ice plant in Northbay Boulevard, Navotas City on Tuesday morning, April 5.

Insp. Pedrito Polo, Bureau of Fire Protection- Navotas (BFP- Navotas) chief of investigation, told Manila Bulletin that three of the victims were residents of Barangay Kaunlaran, while three others were from Barangay NBBS-Proper.

Polo said that they received the report of the incident at around 3:05 a.m.

He added that a 50-year-old man reportedly died during the incident. However, BFP-Navotas is still checking if it is due to the ammonia leak since the victim has heart complications.

As of this writing, authorities have yet to declare the area as safe while the cause of the leak is still being investigated.
