Pacquiao breaks ground for own housing project in Leyte

Presidential aspirant Senator Emmanuel 'Manny' Pacquiao has led the ground breaking ceremony of his self-funded Pacman Villages in Leyte, a bailiwick of a rival where he barnstormed for his campaign rally.

If he wins in the upcoming elections, Pacquiao said, he would build more housing projects to address the country's housing backlogs, which already reach millions, within six years. He will do it by allocating P400 billion yearly, he added.

"Kung resibo ang pag uusapan eh yung pabahay ko matagal na yung ginagawa ko wala pa ako sa pulitika namimigay na ako ng sariling tahanan bahay at lupa (If we talk about receipts, my housing projects are evidence that even when I was not yet in politics, I was already giving away free homes and lands)," he said Friday.

According to Pacquiao, the money that will fund his housing project will come from the money he will save when he starts his war against corruption. He said, there are about P700 billion to P1 trillion that can be saved should the government solve corruption issues.

Pacquiao broke ground for a one-hectare donated property in Kananga town and two-hectare property in Leyte town, in the province that is known to be the bailiwick of another presidential bet , former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos. The project will give homes to residents of Eastern Visayas who have lost their homes due to calamities.
