Laguna solon says 'next president will be a woman'

STA. ROSA, Laguna—A congressman of this province made a "bold prediction"​ on Friday night here that it will be a woman who will win in this year's presidential race.

Danilo Ferdandez, Laguna's 1st District Representative, said "what has been will be again, what has been done will be done again. Nothing changed under the sun."

Fernandez was referring to what happened to presidential aspirant Leni Robredo, the lone female candidate for the position, in 2016, when she won the vice presidency.

He made the pronouncement although Robredo was statistically tied with her main rival, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., in terms of voting preference of this province, based on the latest Pulse Asia survey.

However, the lawmaker admitted, there are still battles to fight.

With eight days left before the upcoming elections, Fernandez said Robredo supporters should continue reaching out to the people, especially those coming from the marginalized sectors—whose members are the focus of Robredo's platform of government.

"Malalaki ang rally natin, marami tayong volunteers. Pero ang kulang pa natin, tulak. Kayod pa, punta pa sa mga laylayan (Our rallies are big. We have a lot of volunteers. But it's still not enough. Let's push harder, for the marginalized)," he said.

"Sapagkat ang tsinelas leadership ni Vice President Leni Robredo ang kinakalinga ay ‘yung mga nasa laylayan ng lipunan (Because the tsinelas leadership of Robredo includes and cares for those in the marginalized sector)," he added.

Ferdnandez, who endorsed Robredo for the presidency, called on the latter to help the farmers, the fisherfolk as well as the informal workers, if she wins in the upcoming elections.
